white/red, the lovely scheme of my one-week-old giant roadie
though today a lovely good friday she and i saw a different red
the red of danger
the red of blood
our maiden visit to old upper thomson road
on that final turn, a right bender
too much speed too much gradient too much damp
too little roadie experience too little braking technique too little prudence
too much braking
too little traction
rear wheel locked up
buang
you know you love your bike a lot
when you were immediately more concerned about its damage
than your own
torn bar tape, neligible brake lever battlescars, slanted but recoverable brake lever hoods
thankfully nothing serious
scraped bruised elbow, scraped bruised butt, torn jersey pockets
thankfully nothing serious
crash with a laugh, making it the last
better learn the lesson on a deserted road than a busy one
envisaging myself enjoying the cycling passion long into my twilight years
any less optimism would melt this dream to tears
pedal safe with the red danger in mind
pedal on for the red passion at heart
